Don’t miss: 49ers are set to trade Jarrett Kingston to the….

Considering that they selected a wide receiver when they weren’t quite ready for one, the 49ers’ first-round pick was

a luxury pick.

Sports Illustrated’s Gilberto Manzano reports that although the 49ers still have significant needs at defensive end,

defensive tackle, and interior offensive line, Ricky Pearsall might be a huge asset down the road.

“The 49ers are banking on veterans to replace edge rusher Chase Young and defensive tackle Arik Armstead,” writes

Manzano. “It will take time to see if Nick Bosa can be adequately supported by the rotation of Leonard Floyd, Drake

Jackson, and Yetur Gross-Matos. The 49ers struggle inside, yet they manage to win on the offensive line.”

The 49ers need a defensive end, even if most analysts wouldn’t think so. For the 49ers are in serious jeopardy if

Leonard Floyd doesn’t produce. Furthermore, he turns 32 in September, therefore it’s very likely that he will lose

weight. His inability to establish a lead against the run, which was the 49ers’ worst defensive weakness the previous

season, will also prevent him from continuing to produce as a pass rusher. Therefore, it shouldn’t come as a surprise

if the 49ers make another trade deadline acquisition for an edge player, similar to what they did with Chase Young

the previous campaign.
